Nutrition for TB-Afflicted Children

Nutrition for TB-Afflicted Children

Turbhe, Navi Mumbai

The Nutrition Programme began in 2008 in response to the high incidence of tuberculosis among children in Turbhe. MOCCB provided milk, boiled eggs, fruit, and nutritious snacks each day to strengthen their health and support recovery.

From 2009 onwards, the Diocese of Bombay extended this support to undernourished children across Turbhe, one of Navi Mumbai’s largest slum communities, providing milk and a boiled egg each morning.

In 2010, MOCCB partnered with Terana Hospital’s Outreach Program in Nerul to identify malnourished children. Based on medical guidance, children under seven were enrolled, and more than 30 participants received daily nutrition while their growth and health were regularly monitored.

The programme helped improve participants’ height, weight, and overall well-being, supporting 30–35 children each day, until it had to be suspended in 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The programme was later revived in 2023, enrolling 30–35 children recommended by the nearby Bal Vadis.

Alongside daily milk and eggs, participating families occasionally also receive donated care packages containing essential household supplies.
